  2. I feel so blessed that I was able to be part of yesterday’s Level One Reiki session. What great energy! I have a question: if you lay your hands on someone, with hands on opposite sides of the body, and one side is hot and the other is cold, how would you interpret the cold? How would you interpret the hot? If I missed this in the manual just let me know the page.

  3. We’re delighted to know you got so much out of the class, Lu. It was a pleasure meeting you. As for your question, there are a couple of possible explanations.

During most sessions, it seems more common for both hands to be hot or cold at the same time. When they’re hot it simply means the energy is needed by the area of the body you are treating in that moment. The body will “pull” the extra energy in until it is balanced once again. At that point, you’ll notice your hands return to normal temperature. It’s almost as if an off switch had been flipped.

When your hands are cold, however, it may be indicating that there is a condition in that area of the body which needs a different flow of energy for proper balance to be restored. When there is a cyst, or tumor, or something that needs to shrink and dissolve instead of grow, Reiki will work toward that end. The practitioner will often feel that as cold or cool instead of warm. It is important, however, not to make assumptions or “diagnose” for your client. There is a great deal more to say about this and we’ll cover that in our follow up meeting.

As for one hand being cold and the other warm, it can either be related to what I’ve just described - with both sides needing energy but not the same qualities, or it may be a simpler situation.

We all have polarities in our bodies, with the right side representing the positive, electric, masculine principle, and the left side representing the receptive, magnetic, feminine principle. As each side runs its primary energetic quality, it will be affected by the events of your life, reacting to them and causing a constant ebb and flow. As the degrees of strength change, the need for balance changes along with it. Reiki will naturally assist the individual in regaining the balance they need, thus causing the sensations of coolness or warmth in the hands of the practitioner.

I hope this helps with your question. If you want more clarification, don’t hesitate to ask.

Be well.. and Happy New Year :)
